I finally picked a paint color for my bonus room makeover….  Chelsea GRAY!!! It took me forever to settle on a color, but what’s the rush. My painting skills have gotten a lot better since I started buying better quality brushes. Also, not having to worry about the floor made things a bit easier.

Benjamin Moore Chelsea Gray HC-168 is a dark to medium gray. It’s a warm gray that is still pretty close to a true gray and it goes with almost anything. I had envisioned going much darker, but this worked out. The floors are going to be dark and the doors are dark, so I figured super dark walls might be a bit too much.

This is the first coat and it’s not quite dry yet.

Here it is completely finished with Benjamin Moore Simply White trim, Mopboard Black doors and Chelsea Gray walls. I’m really excited with all the progress.

It looks like I might know what I’m doing with all these tools and paint cans lying around here. Well, looks can be deceiving because I’m going to be spending a little time touching up the trim where some gray escaped through the tape.

I’m amazed that we were able to complete all of this work without a professional contractor. Although, Dad is pretty amazing at mostly everything so I shouldn’t be that surprised.  I certainly could not have tackled this without him.

All the tools and wood piles make this a legitimate construction site.  I’m running out to get a tool belt today so I can look the part!

Now, that the painting is almost complete, I’m starting to think the room needs some cool feature walls.  There are tons of great pins showcasing board and batten styles that I love. I think I’ll work on a design and then see if I can convince the foreman to add it to the project list. 🙂  Stay tuned and check back to see the progress of the never-ending bonus room makeover.

  1. I don’t know how I came across your blog but I’m so glad I did. I feel like they’re all the ideas in my head manifesting on the screen. I so love grays, blacks and whites !

    • I’m so happy you found the blog, too! I’ve seen some great ideas and I just wanted people to know that if I can do this, you could too. It sounds like we’re two peas in a pod. Thanks for checking out my blog!

  2. Do you think I could use chelsea gray with medium oak cabinets in my kitchen and dining room or is it too dark? I have black kitchen appliances, black and gray countertops and black, grey and white backsplash?

    • Hi Judy! Thanks for checking out my blog! I like Chelsea Gray, but I think it might make the overall area dark if there is not a lot of natural light. If you have a lot of light, go for it. If not, have them lighten the mix a touch…maybe 20-30%. It’s a great neutral gray and I think you’ll love it. Let me know what you decide. Good luck!
