After completing some demo work to the old office, I can finally imagine the new guest room space. It was a lot of hard work getting the room cleared of all the old carpet, wallpaper and popcorn ceiling. You can read all about that here. I didn’t think we would ever get finished, but WE DID!

The room feels much bigger now and I can’t wait to see it finished. However, there is so much to do in the meantime.  My design plan for this space is based off my inspiration board here. I want this room to have a very dark ceiling and bright white walls. The walls need some added dimension and there needs to be a definitive stop line for the dark paint on the walls. I’m always up for adding trim in any space. Trim and moldings really jazz up a space and it worked out so well for the Bonus Room Makeover, so I’m definitely doing it in here.

This is where I plan to put up some wood trim pieces. I laid them out with a few large paint sticks just to get an idea as to where it would go.

First things first, I decided to bring the dark paint down onto the wall and I added a piece of lattice trim about a quarter of the way down the wall from the ceiling.  Lattice is an inexpensive piece of wood you can add to your walls with small nails or liquid nail.  I prefer nailing because it goes up much faster with my nail gun.

This piece is primed which will be a lifesaver when I get to the painting phase.  That saves a step or two.

After adding the first row, I decided that I wanted a piece with a little more detail in between.  Of course, I saw something similar on Pinterest and I put my own spin on it.  There’s really no rhyme or reason other than I like it.  Sometimes you just gotta go with what you like.

The third row of trim is another piece of lattice that is closer to the floor.  This room will have brand new wide baseboards that will work well with this trim detail.

I’ll spend the next day or so puttying and caulking and then it’s TIME TO PAINT!
